Grammy Awards 2020 : African Giant,Burna Boy Loses Award to Angélique Kidjo

For her album Celia, Angélique Kidjo was named as the recipient of the 2020 Grammy Award for Best World Music.

This is the fourth time the legend from Benin and Africa has taken home a prize at the coveted award show.

She has been nominated at the Grammy Awards nine times according to records.

She defeated Nigeria's sensation, Burna Boy and other artists in the group to much to the dismay of many Nigerian music lovers.

Apart from Kidjo, Burna Boy – African Giant ', Altin Gün – Gece, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted by Jules Buckley – What Heat, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet – Fanm D'ayiti included the others nominated for Best World Music Grammy.

Angélique Kidjo has devoted her Best Grammy World Music to Burna Boy.

"The new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm, and the time has come,”During her acceptance speech Kidjo said.

Although the category of world music remains a questionable one, the nomination of Burna Boy was a major milestone for contemporary African music and the impact on Kidjo was not lost.
"This is for Burna Boy, [he] is among those young artists [who] came from Africa [who] are changing the way our continent is perceived, and the way African music has been the bed rock for every [type] of music,"She commented.

Burna Boy has on several occasions presented himself as a huge fan of the renowned artist.
